| undocumented XML-RPC methods |
[Dec. 2nd, 2009|12:03 pm] |
Some googling and testing revealed the following undocumented XML-RPC methods, which expose a number of nice functions from the client side.
All are in the LJ.XMLRPC namespace of course:
getfriendspage sendmessage setmessageread getinbox addcomments
These were gleaned from: code.livejournal.org/trac/livejournal/browser/trunk/cgi-bin/ljprotocol.pl
It seems only paid users can call addcomments. This codebase is over a year old, it looks like they aren't using that repository. I believe there may be other methods. The iPhone app developer cosysoftware_en some upcoming functionalities in his app that don't seem available from these methods. He claims to have gotten LJ to extend the XML-RPC interface, but won't disclose what these new functions might be.
The LJ support is useless. Is there another way to contact LJ devs? Anyone with XML-RPC client should implore LJ to update their documentation.

| Supported method for changing main site index.html |
[Dec. 3rd, 2009|03:22 pm] |
New site up and running and I'm to the point of editing the main index page. On the page it says to reference this
You'll want to customize this page. Read the instructions at http://www.livejournal.com/doc/server/lj.customize.index.html for help.
to update the page. The only thing I see that might relate in there is the section about updating a language file.
Should I update it the normal way by creating it in my CVS local directory and syncing it over, or is there a different method for site pages like the main index? |

11:29 AM 12/1/09 · I heard about TMNT: Turtles Forever a little late in the game, middle of last week, and wasn't thrilled. What I heard was that the original TMNT toon was coming back to Saturday morning. Back when that first came out I had high hopes that were quickly dashed, what with the excessive goofy & the multicolored bands & the Foot ninja being all robots & Krang & a Shredder who was beyond pathetic, but I stuck with it as it was all that was available at the time.
Unlike the current series which stayed remarkably accurate to the original comics for far longer than I'd've believed possible. Got a little hinky with that trip to the future but otherwise it was pretty damned good!
Wasn't until Saturday morning I learned it was a crossover. Read the blurb on Comcast's info screen. It wasn't the turtles of the past so much as it was them mixing it up with the turtles of the present. I was a little fuzzy on the details but decided to check it out anyway...
...though I got a little distracted and missed all but the last 4 minutes of it.
Interestingly enough I got a better description from Mom, who's grown into something of a fair geek herself in recent years. It's a cross·dimensional thing, kinda like this: Clicky! Not just the turtles but their rogues gallery too. I don't know the why or wherefore of it myself...but I hope to learn soon.
Shortly after I post this I'm going to pop over to KBHK4kids.com and watch it. Wouldn've checked it sooner but it doesn't always post content immediately after it airs.
Not going to miss TMNT: Turtles Forever this coming Saturday on The CW. |

...but has anyone ever wondered why they chose the color scheme for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that they did? I mean they all originally had red bands on their heads. I'm less concerned about why that was changed, probably to make it simpler for little kids, but why they chose which colors they did for each turtle.
Why do you think that Don got purple, Mike got orange, Leo got blue, and only Raph got to keep the original red? |

What did you think of Andromeda? |

Perhaps a job in telephone support is not your best option. Admittedly, you're working the worst shift ever, 7:22 AM the Sunday of a holiday weekend, but still.
In any case, AT&T is sending me a new smart card. So I should get my phone back in a week.
Does this go in the category of "Be careful what you wish for?"
Or as Ista would say, the most savage curses come as answer to our prayers. Prayer is a dangerous business and should be outlawed. |

Here are some pictures and what's going on around the house over the few hours that I've been home and awake. Also last night. Oh man. Madness. Just madness. I was going to put her in the crate but that cute mew and that way she's so damn into you. six days and if I'm home she's at my side, on my keyboard and what not. which reminds me I have email one of my editors and be all like Look. This is why you didn't get anything this week. It's a KITTEN. It's not mine. I'm just kitten sitting. Do you want me to crate this kitten? DO YOU? It's so cute! (luckily I don't have a deadline this week) anyway onto the morning in pictures. Sorry for the glare it's an overcast and rainy Black Friday ( Read more... ) and the piece de-resistance. Shit got real. Slide FINALLY got the ovaries to TOUCH Slate. Slate wakes up and I was able to snap this picture and write this entry before having to move the two apart again. Come home soon Candi and Jerad! :D
